How I Tailor My Services to Clients’ Needs
The traditional, “full service” model of legal representation involves an attorney handling all aspects of a case from start to finish. In my practice, I recognize that many clients need more flexibility. They want the option to choose which specific tasks they will delegate to me and which specific issues they want to address. Accordingly, I offer “limited scope” family law and mediation services tailored to my clients’ specific needs.
Limited Scope Legal Representation
If you are interested in retaining me as a consulting attorney to help you reach settlement of your family law matter, you can retain me, for example, for any of the following limited scope services:
Legal research and advice regarding your rights;
Assistance with completing, filing, and serving necessary Court documents;
Settlement coaching to help you prioritize your interests while negotiating with the other party;
Review and analysis of settlement terms and tentative agreements reached;
etc.
You can also specify the issues for which you are seeking counsel. For example, maybe you have been able to work out a child custody schedule with the other party, but you need legal advice regarding your rights or obligations with respect to child support. My limited scope legal services can be tailored to your needs - on a task by task or issue by issue basis.
Limited Scope Mediation Services
While “limited scope” is often associated with narrowing the scope of legal representation, the same concept can be applied to mediation services. Do you need assistance with the procedural requirements of the legal process (like filing and serving Court documents), or are you only looking to mediate the substantive issues in your matter? When you choose to mediate with me, you decide which tasks to entrust to me.
Further, you can limit the scope of the issues you would like to mediate. Many parties in mediation are in agreement on at least some of the issues. By limiting the scope of mediation, we can focus on those issues that need more time and attention. For example, you and the other party may have agreed how you will divide the community property, but you need assistance reaching resolution regarding spousal support. Issue-focused mediation can help you resolve outstanding issues efficiently.
